French
Creek: The Journal of Undergraduate Environmental Writing and
Art is an online journal that publishes original essays,
poetry, fiction and artwork focused on place-based or environmental
subject matter. Environmental or place-based writing and art ask
us to reevaluate the ways in which we construct our relationship
to the natural world. They often move us to take action and to
participate in the stewardship of both the local and larger natural
and human communities. As author William Kittredge has remarked,
"Stories help us find intimate, imaginative connection with
one another and the world-the environment, other creatures, and
the biosphere, the living thing that we are part of, without which,
we are nothing." French Creek publishes writing and
art that foster such intimate, imaginative connections .
French
Creek, published at Allegheny College, reflects the generous
support of the Center for Environmental and Economic Development
(CEED) and Allegheny College, but neither their opinions nor
their policies. Published works are selected solely by the student
board and editors.
